Free Standard Ground shipping (48 contiguous states, some overweight and Used/Vintage items excluded). I recently cleared out a slot and was going to procure one of these gems but then I read about the 24v power, which would look at this not work well with my current pedalboard configuration. This has to be the first 24v pedal that I’ve run into. The place for all things related to guitar pedals. Is the schematic for the ~1990s DMM version available?

Mike Matthews was friends with Jimi Hendrix and claims Jimi bought one from Manny’s Music in New York, shortly after they were released and had one in the Electric Lady Studios shortly before Jimi’s death in 1970. Several variations of the Big Muff Pi followed throughout the 1970s. As of 2012 Electro-Harmonix produced a reissue assembled in New York City; until 2009 it produced a version made by Sovtek in Russia which provided a slightly different tone. The Bass Big Muff replaced the Russian version. The band Mudhoney titled their debut EP Superfuzz Bigmuff.

By adding another repeat or two and some more delay time made for a good lead delay sound. The length and depth of a delay is a personal choice in this mode and it was nice to have enough and more of what I needed. It was also very quiet and transparent, even with high gain and volume, and this is a huge plus. This unit works perfectly but I have an audible whine that decreases in frequency when the delay time is enlarged. For more modern, ambient-style guitar in the vein of artists like Hammock, or Lowercase Noises. It has almost more of a reverb-like character to it than a strict ‘echo’ sound, and the chorus sound is very pronounced.

Judicious use of the controls is essential in these situations to keep the delay from becoming obtrusive. And the AD999 has the fine-tuning abilities to make these fine adjustments. This is one of the unit’s strongest points, the range of control over the sounds it can create. In all of the various applications I put it in, the AD999 proved to be a remarkable delay unit. In this instance, I could easily leave the chorus/delay combination on all the time in a clean channel, which was exactly what I was looking for in a delay.

However, the case is a bit larger than the standard Boss or MXR unit, nearly twice as wide and slightly longer. Finished in an unobtrusive off-pink, the unit is clearly laid out and easy to use. Musicians love it and collectors cherish it. Nothing can compare to the organic sound of analog delay, especially when it’s from the Deluxe Memory Man. Up to 550ms of vibrant echo that rivals tape delay. Lush, spatial chorus and haunting vibrato are just a few of the treats in the Memory Man’s sonic smorgasbord.

I currently use either an old Echoplex and a chorus or the H2O chorus/delay for this, but I would definitely want the AD999 in a live situation. It had a lot of the warmth of the Echoplex, without the rather fragile nature of the classic tape delay unit. The AD999 also worked well with any of the other chorus pedals I paired it with and made no negative impacts anywhere in the pedal chain order. The Normal/Effect footswitch either engages or disengages the unit, naturally. Switching for the AD999 is handled by a 4PDT mechanical switch for transparent, noise free operation.

I’m referring to the one with two MN3005 chips and the Pico HB board. Bands like Oceansize and Karnivool that incorporate post-rock textures into their music might use a setting like this. Mark Hosking from Karnivool has a DMM on his board with an extra-large Delay knob that he can manipulate with his foot; he also uses it for oscillation. The most famous player of the DMM is U2’s The Edge; you will have heard it on iconic tracks like Sunday Bloody Sunday.

You can parallel caps for fine adjustments, or you can add or remove resistance for fine adjustments. Right away you should see that the high end is heavily attenuated. Anyone familiar with these pedals is aware of the “dark” quality of the echoes. What this reveals that isn’t quite so obvious to the ear is the little bass cut and the strong mid boost that is also present alongside the high cut.

Exhaust all methods of troubleshooting before worrying that your chips are dead. EBay is the primary source of these discontinued chips. “Pulled”/used chips might be anywhere from $30 to $100 dollars. NOS/tested/guaranteed chips might be advertised for over $100.

If you have another pedal that accepts the same chip try the swap there. After all this, if there is no delay signal, the chip is most likely dead. One of the most in-demand analog delay pedals ever built. Will ship within 10 business days of receiving cleared payment. The seller has specified an extended handling time for this item.
